got a question, are skilled only obtained through the trainers to find? i worry that i won't find all the skilled available for my class. If you proceed with the story can you come back and get the skills you missed? how do your character get stronger? how do you raise strength, energy etc. does it automatically raise your stats when you lvl up? thanks.

Greets everyone,

I've just got a few questions and comments. I've desperately been searching for a sort of online role playing game, where you get to level your character, create him/her how you want, a game where you can really be unique in a sense. For 6 months I participated in the various stages of the "RYL" betas, and I have to say that after seeing a MMORPG go from decent to complete and utter crap, where you sit there and group-kill, group-kill, group-kill, group-kill, to level for an unfathomable amount of time...well it left me with many negative feelings. I should not...by ANY means, have to LIVE in a game to have fun in it. So I went, and stumbled upon Guild Wars. I've done a fair bit of research and figured out about all the classes, zones, instances and what not, and then I headed down and viewed several movies and screenshots submitted by you good people. I have a few questions though, after all this.

Just how unique are the characters in the game? Can your character really be unlike all the others? I've played loads of games and I always see the same armor, the same skills, the same clones of people walking around with different names. Can you actually tell who's who in the game? Apparently there are many many skills available, does this allow for some unexpected surprises from time to time in a battle? I couldn't find the answers to these questions just by reading what I've seen thus far.

And the final question...how is the community? In the majority of the betas and games that I've played the chat is LITTERED with everyone yelling for an admin and people insulting eachother and what not. Is there a lot of that in this game, or is it generally a decent good-natured community? From what I've seen on these forums it seems a lot better than most other games, with the exception of the usual ego-build and ill-mannered no-it-all.

Thanks for your help, I'm just looking for a game where I can don my armor pull out me sword and have some fun when I feel in need of some good gaming...not a place where I've got to live my life in the game to have some hope of getting a decent armor...

Though you can dye armor (and even mix dyes for "unique" colors), there are a very limited set of armor pieces for each character class. So while people will often look different depending on dye, they will still be wearing 1 of 6 or so different armors, and there's always going to be 1 or 2 which are popular. You can mix and match pieces from different armor sets, though.

As far as skills though, this is very variable. While you may be defined in your group as having a certain role, you can always pack other skills which will be "surprising" or "abnormal". For example, a warrior/monk could concentrate on melee damage and healing, or on melee damage and nuking. There are other class combinations which offer MUCH more diverse skills (take a look at the diversity of the ranger skillset).

In referance to this, chat is indeed littered with people. You can choose to not have certain channels displayed on your chat menu if you want. But alot of shouting for trades, and selling and buying. And ofcourse the immature stupid banter of the ignorant ones. But just mute it out and you will have a blast! Me personally i would prefer they kept it real and didnt have an "ALL" talk channel to prevent all this BS chat, but then im only a player in the game.

As for the armor system, this was probobly my biggest dissapointment. Im the type that loves diversity in a character, and so far i havent seen any. When you make a character theres going to be 1,000,000 more like it. The only difference would be the dyes, but even then its not that unique. And you wont "find" any good armors, the only viable way ive seen so far is to have them crafted in town, thus making everyone have the same crap.

All in all i loved it for a while, but its already getting a bit boring for me. Basically you go out and collect as many skills as possible. Each character you create goes through the same basic quests except for a few different ones. Once your done the main game once you wont really want to do it all again. Unless you dont mind a totally quest driven atmosphere (Same world, same module, same everything!) Then that leaves you to PvP. Which only keeps you entertained for so long when you have designated areas, and must ask someone before killing them. Dont know about you but it ruins PvP when its not roleplayed out. Guess im too much of a PnP kinda guy.

My best advice, if you want this game, join a guild that is very active. And enjoy the pretty sights!

Default Can PVP-only characters gain access to GvG and Tournaments?

I'm new to GW and didn't get to participate in beta. I understand that you get 3 RP and 1 PVP char and that as you gain skills on your RP chars you will unlock skills for your PVP char.

The question I have is this....I've noticed that my PVP char cannot leave the arena he is in and I know he's not supposed to be able to enter PVE areas. With this being the case, if our goal is to participate in GvG and Tournament events are we required to use RP characters for those?

**Also...in GvG is there a limit on the number of people can participate or is it unlimited?

You have 4 character slots. You can make all your characters as PvP chars or all RP chars. You are not locked into 3 RPs and 1 PvP char. The PvP chars can access the guild hall and therefore can participate in GvG. GvG is limited to a team of 8 only.

Default Need a little help...

Hello everyone my name is Eomor King and I currently play on the American server, I am level 10 and I'm a Ranger / Warrior. Anyways, I've just entered the 4th mission zones, the one after the Ruins, I don't recall what the names are right now. Well, I've been searching up and down through these forums trying to find where I get my next set of skills, where the Ranger and Warrior skill / attributes are. Do you think you can direct me to the area where I get my new attributes? If this helps any I haven't got any new skills since lvl 7, and those are from the Trainers in Ascalon City <-- If that's spelled right. I'm so very sorry if this doesn't make any sence, I'm in a hurry at the moment.
Thanks A Bunch!!

I'm just like u, RPG's and didn't want to pay a sub, but I bought this game and tried it. Go for it, it'll be a very pleasant experience. U can play as little or as much as u like, at your own pace. I like the fact that experienced players can't kill newbies off before they get a chance to find their way. If u want PvP u can choose it, or not.

Default Weapon Schemes

The F1-F4 buttons are used to quick swap between weapons... how do I add more weapons down there? The manual has NOTHING about that, I tried a search for something along those lines and got nothing also.

I've just ordered the game, and am looking forward to it coming

But I have a couple of questions...
Are there "cookiecutters?" (Builds made by many because they are obviously more powerful then others)
And "ultimate equipment" (basically the same as cookiecutters, except it's items)
And does your secondary profesion change the skills you get for you first? i.e. do ranger/monks get the same ranger skills as a ranger/warrior?

Obviously these are that important to me since I have already ordered the game, but I'd still like to know.

Cheers

Smile SWG vs GW

I quit SWG, all 3 accounts I had there, due to the CU. This game is infinitely better than the CU. The major diffs are that:
1. there is no crafting in GW. Of course, they totally nerfed crafting in SWG, so it doesn't really have it any more either.
2. This is not a persistent world game e.g. when you get a mission or a quest, you get your own personal instance so no one can camp on spawns, grief you or steal your loot / credits. You form groups in cities and outposts, then the group gets its own instance of the quest / mission / exploration area and the group members share in the loot and gold collected.
3. You get four toons and there is no monthly fee. You choose a primary and a secondary (optional) profession and train these up as you go toward the fully matured toon at "level 20". I'm not there yet, but I understand the real game begins once you reach this level and the majority of the content is unlocked.

Hope that helps. I understand there are many that have switched over, including most of my guildies from SWG.

Open up your inventory and look under your weapon/armor slot - you should see a button called "Weapon Sets". click that and it bring's up a popup where you can select/deselect weapon sets to have "available" for use.

Once you have more than 1 weapon-set available, you can either click on it's icon or press F1-F4 to switch to that weapon set.

When you switch weapon sets, the weapon/shield/icon/etc that was in your other set gets deposited in your backpack (or belt-pouch/bag/etc if thats where you had it before & there's space) and you'll have a empty weapon & shield slot for you to fill.

Hope that helps

Default The Old World

I have been playing now in the 'New World"as some say it is the Tutorial World.
I started out as a Elementalist and now am a N/E - I am now at level 7.

I have done a lot of quest and gain lots of experience - but I was wondering what a good time will be to talk to Sir Tyrus and enter the academy and then the Old World.

And what s teh difference between the Old World and the previous world.

I have noticed that in the previous world you arenot able to have total 2 players in a party ?

Or is there a thread that explaisn all this ?

Okay 2 Questions:

1: How to upgrade your weapon?

2: Some salvage items have for example 20 armor, but what to do with this? I'm only able to salvage it to get crafting material so what does it matter when a salvage item has high amor or not?

I also have a purple coloured (rare I think) salvage item? Is there anyspecial use for this item?

question, please answer here and PM me too incase I can't find your answers to this in the sea of posts

topic: unlocked skills for PvP

If you make a character, unlock a crap load of skills then after a while you delete the character will you still have the skills you unlocked with your now deleted character or do you lose access to them as well?

The game is incomplete beyond that point.
There's little chance for advancement. There's two areas. One with tough monsters that don't take damage. The other area is an empty desert.
